Microsoft Outlook 97 E-Mail Configuration

This is our online support area to help you setup Microsoft Outlook 97 to work with either the SOHOHost Web Hosting Service or SOHO Central Business Class Internet Access.

You need to have at least Service Release 1 installed for Office 97.  Previous versions will not work with our network.

Please note: There are special instructions for setup depending on whether you subscribe to our Internet access service or just our web hosting service or both.

  1. From the Outlook Tools menu, choose Services
  2. Select the Services tab.
  3. If Internet E-mail does not appear, continue with step 4.
    If Internet E-mail appears in the list of services:
    1. Highlight Internet E-mail.
    2. Click the Properties button.
    3. Go to step 7.



       
    4. Click the Add button.
    5. In the Add Service to Profile window, highlight Internet E-mail.



       
    6. Click OK.
    7. In the Mail Account Properties window, select the General tab.
    8. In the Mail Account box, type a name for your SOHO Central mailbox (this can be anything you want, if we host your domain, put your domain name in there).
    9. In the Name box, type your name.
    10. In the E-mail Address box, type your SOHO Central e-mail address (e.g., username@sohocentralusa.com). If we host your domain, use your domain name (e.g. username@yourdomain.com).



       
    11. Select the Servers tab.
    12. In the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box, type smtp.sohocentralusa.com (if we host your site and you DO NOT subscribe to our Internet access service, you must enter the SMTP settings of your local Internet provider. If we host your site and you DO subscribe to our Internet access service, put smtp.yourdomain.com)
    13. In the Incoming Mail (POP3) box, type pop.sohocentralusa.com (if we host your site, use your domain name) pop.yourdomain.com
    14. For Login Information, select Logon using.
    15. In the Account Name box, type your username (note that this is case-sensitive).
    16. In the Password box, type your e-mail password (also case-sensitive).



       
    17. Select the Connection tab.
    18. For Connection, select I use a modem to access my e-mail.
    19. For Use the following Dial-Up Networking connection, select your SOHO Central connection.



       
    20. Click the OK button.
    21. If you have added the Internet Mail service, you will be prompted to restart Outlook.



       
    22. Click the OK button.
    23. Click OK again to dismiss the Services window.
    24. Quit and restart Outlook if necessary.
