Setup RAS (Remote Access Service)

This area is available to help you setup RAS (Remote Access Service) for Windows NT 3.51 for use with SOHO Business Class Internet Access. It will walk you through the various configuration screens on your computer. 

Some of these configurations may already be configured on your system as a result of previous Internet connections and/or pre-installed with your system. Please review this information to make sure it is correct.

Before you begin, make sure you have your Windows NT CD-ROM or diskettes available and ready for installation. 

 Configuring Remote Access Service

  1. From Program Manager, double-click the Remote Access Service Program Group icon.



     
  2. Double-click the Remote Access icon.



     
  3. If you receive a message that The phone book is empty, click the OK button.



    Otherwise, click the Add button.



     
  4. In the Entry Name box, type SOHO Central.
  5. In the Phone Number box, type your SOHO Central access number.
  6. In the Description box, type SOHO Central.
  7. Uncheck Authenticate using current user name and password.



     
  8. Click the Advanced button.



     
  9. For Port, select the port your modem is installed on.
  10. Click the Modem button.
  11. For Initial speed (bps), select:
    19200 for a 14400 modem
    38400 for a 28800 or 33600 modem
    57600 for a 56000 modem.
  12. Check all Hardware Features supported by your modem.
  13. Uncheck Enter modem commands manually.



     
  14. Click the OK button.
  15. Click the Network button.
  16. Select PPP
  17. Uncheck NetBEUI.
  18. Check TCP/IP.
  19. Uncheck IPX.
  20. Uncheck Request LCP extensions.



     
  21. Click the TCP/IP Settings button.
  22. Select Server assigned IP address.
  23. Select Use specific name server addresses.
  24. In the DNS box, type 216.98.128.70.
  25. In the DNS backup box, type 216.98.138.70.
  26. Check Use VJ header compression.
  27. Check Use default gateway on remote network.



     
  28. Click the OK button.
  29. Click the OK button.
  30. Click the Security button.
  31. Select Accept any authentication including clear text.
  32. For both Before dialing and After dialing, choose (none).



     
  33. Click the OK button.
  34. Click the OK button.

Connecting to SOHO Central

  1. Select your SOHO Central entry.



     
  2. Click the Dial button.
  3. In the User Name box, type your username.
  4. In the Password box, type your SOHO Central password (Note: this is case-sensitive).
  5. Do not enter anything in the Domain box. It must remain blank.



     
  6. Click the OK button.
  7. Check Minimize on dial.
  8. Check Do not display this message in the future.



     
  9. Click the OK button.
  10. You may now run your browser of choice.
